VOLUNTEER AGENCIES

What Can You Expect?

When you search the volunteer agencies, you will find a variety of opportunities in what is generally called the Human Services Area. Some volunteer opportunities are unskilled and some may be matched to your skills. The agencies also list opportunities that are not poverty related. Also, many agencies cover geographic areas outside LA County, though they do list opportunities by city and state. To do poverty relief work, some of the categories you might search for are:

Meal Preparation
Tutoring
English Teaching
Baby Care
Legal Help
Crisis Hotline Answering
Reading
Health Support
Weekend Food drive
Parenting / Teen Counseling

Mentoring
Teen Outreach
Facilitation / Mediation
Playtime & Stories
Community Gardening
Administrative Support
Crisis Intervention
Violence Prevention
Home Repair
Good Packing for the Homeless
