LEGISLATION

Why Contact Your Legislators?

Because You Care About Your Neighbors!

Because it's a shame that bountiful California lags other states in supporting the poor.

Because it doesn't cost anything and it is easy - just follow our simple directions.

Because representatives need to know how their constituents feel.

Because legislators must react to their constituents - or risk not being reelected.

Because one voice - YOURS - can make a great difference.

Because you feel good when you choose to express how you feel about an important issue.

Sample, State, Federal & Local Reforms to Help the Hungry?

Passing the Hunger-Free LA and California programs that will emulate programs in other states.

Launching a Federal Food Stamp Enlargement and Program Simplification effort.

Starting a State Nutrition Assistance Program to help purchase nutritious food for Hunger-Assistance Charities.

Making applications for L.A. County-operated Food Programs widely accessible and not arduous to fill out, to file and to follow-up on.

Launch a L.A. City Annual Report, Plan of Action and Policy Council on food, hunger and nutrition in the city.

How To Contact Your Legislators

Set aside 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted web time – to e-mail your legislators.
State representatives' web site addresses and email addresses are listed below.
Check our web site from time to time for updates on the legislation and your impact on it.

Find out the phone and fax number of your state Assemblymembers and Senator by calling the Capitol Switchboard at (916) 657-9900, or by going to www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html. All you need is your zip code.

Urge your legislators to oppose budget cuts to programs that help the poor and to support whatever measures that help the poor.

Contact Your Governor

Call or fax Governor Schwarzenegger and let him know that cutting welfare, health, housing and food stamp programs for the poor is not an acceptable way to balance the budget. If the Sacramento numbers are busy, call his nearest regional office:
